Katie Lawrance (AISTD) was born in Louth, Lincolnshire in 1976, and began attending local ballet classes at the age of 2 ˝. At 4 she took part in her first competition and by age 6 had also started modern classes. At 10 she added tap to complete the set, and was actively taking exams and competing until the age of 18.
Achievements during this time included gaining national scholarship nominations in tap and modern, an international scholarship nomination in tap, winning the Lincolnshire Tap Championship, runner up in the Ballet Championship and being named the Most Promising Competitor out of 1800 participants at the Grimsby Dance Festival.
Upon completing her A-levels, Katie attended the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, gaining BAHons in German, and proceeded onto the graduate training scheme with the Royal Bank of Scotland. She managed their Bond Street Branch, London, for a period, before taking a more local job in Letchworth. Throughout this period she never lost her passion for dance, eventually deciding to dramatically change her career path to follow this direction.
Katie gained her dance teaching qualifications at ‘The dance College’ near Royston, achieving Associate status in Ballet, Tap, Modern and National dance and becoming a member of the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing). She also gained personal dancing qualifications to Advanced 2 level in Modern, Tap and National, and Advanced 1 Level in Imperial Ballet. After gaining teaching experience working freelance in dance schools in Cambridge, Welwyn Garden City, Royston amongst others, the lifelong ambition of opening her own dance school became a reality in 2003.
Katie is married and her family life involves looking after their two small children (aged 5 and 6).
Katie is committed to continuing professional development. She has gained her Foundation in Dance Instruction, Certificate in Dance Education and has taken her Licentiate qualification in Tap. She is currently working towards her Fellowship status in Tap and her Licentiate in Modern Theatre and Ballet.
Her hope for the school is that it continues to flourish and that each and every pupil is valued and has a positive learning experience in dance. She would like each student to develop to their full potential, whatever that may be, in an enjoyable, yet disciplined environment. Mostly she would like to impart her enthusiasm for dance onto her students, so that they too may develop a lifelong passion!
